START with a brainstorm

overwhelm the page with thoughts

outlines are helpful to organize ideas

don't hesitate with your thoughts

TRANSLATE ideas into sentences

start to pull from your outline and deepen your thoughts with each sentence

ATTENTION to sentence structure

creates variety and flow in the story

GET specific

when describing a person or place, adjectives are key, but, make sure your descriptive words are purposeful

imagine yourself back in the moment

talk about about how your five senses were affected

it is your job to transport the reader to your experience

ENTERTAIN the reader

remember, people read for pleasure

maintaining your voice is key

SLOW read-through of writing

read out loud

make sure every sentence has a purpose

pay attention to style and word choice

make first draft as polished as possible
